Checkpoint Charlies is located on Esplanade Avenue in New Orleans. It’s a bar, restaurant, music venue and laundromat.

This old man told me that he had been beaten up a few days before. He’d come to Checkpoint Charlies to do his laundry, have a drink and see some friendly faces and to read his book in peace.

Which he was doing until some intoxicated photographer from Pontefract stumbled into the joint.
